Here is what I use when I’m sick. The spices in the tea act as analgesics, killing things on your throat. The rum acts as a vasodilator which opens your sinuses, the caffeine wakes you up which acts as an expectorant, and the capsaicin gets your sinuses flowing. Best if used after you wake up clogged in the morning and are waiting for real drugs to kick in:

In a 22 ox tumbler or teapot add

  • 2 Bags Chai Tea (Tazo)
  • 16 oz 190F water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 10 grinds of fresh black pepper

Let steep till proper color (5-10 minutes), then add

  • 1-2 Tbsp heavy cream
  • Sweetener to taste
  • 1.5 oz spiced rum (Captain Morgans or Sailor Jerry’s)

Take large sniff to clear the sinuses, then enjoy. Safer to drive with than sudafed, stronger than 2 advil.
